This section of Gulf Coast photos, as well as the Mississippi Gulf Coast postcards that are part of "The South" category (link below photos), are dedicated to a very special postcard-collector friend, Robert Ewing, III of Monroe, LA who passed away March 27, 2007 following a tragic accident. Robert loved Pass Christian and the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast more than anyone I have ever known. In early March, he was thrilled to see this photo section developing and expressed his gratitude for the two quotes I had chosen below.

Robert's family had a long history in Pass Christian where his father was born in 1901 and where, for many years, several members of his family owned estates where Robert spent many wonderful weekends and summers. The stories he shared of his fond memories growing up there were fascinating. Robert was at what was his grandfather's original estate the morning before Hurricane Camille swept it away. He returned to find the sprawling property left with only a bush and trees snapped like matchsticks. He so much wanted to see Pass Christian and the Coast rise again after the devastation left once again by Hurricane Katrina, and he daily followed the progress being made. A Southern gentleman in the truest sense, Robert will be missed by all who knew him.

~~~~~~~
"Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful,
for beauty is God's handwriting -- a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every flower,
and thank God for it as a cup of blessing."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
"I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength
from distress, and grow by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds
to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience
approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death."
- Leonardo da Vinci
"...After a while, you don't want to let a tragedy define you.
To be alive and function as a human you can't dwell on
misfortune forever. ...I feel that no matter where we wind up,
and no matter what happens to us in the future, we won't
let tragedy define us."
- Steve Harper (Bay St. Louis, MS)
